NPL: Audience excited by participation of foreign players
The second edition of the Nepal Premier League (NPL) is underway in Kirtipur, with international players participating in all four teams, boosting the tournament’s competitiveness and fan engagement.
The second edition of the Nepal Premier League (NPL) is currently featuring two matches today in Kirtipur, Kathmandu. The participation of international players across all four teams has generated excitement both inside and outside Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground, attracting enthusiastic spectators.
The first match is taking place between Karnali Yaks and Chitwan Rhinos, while in the evening, Pokhara Avengers will face Biratnagar Kings. Both matches feature renowned international cricketers, whose experience at the global level provides an advantage to local Nepali players.
Pokhara Avengers have included England’s Dan Douthwaite, known for his all-round performance in both batting and bowling. West Indies’ bowler Ramon Rieffer and England’s Adam Rossington, a wicketkeeper-batter, are also part of the team. Additionally, England’s aggressive T20 batsman Jason Roy and New Zealand’s prominent all-rounder Jimmy Neesham are playing for Pokhara this season.
Biratnagar Kings also feature experienced international players. Scotland’s left-handed batsman George Munsey, known for his powerful shots, and New Zealand’s Martin Guptill, a recognized T20 performer, are part of the squad. Indian domestic all-rounder Shubham Ranjan and South African fast bowler Merchant de Lange add further strength to the team. South Africa’s Faf du Plessis, one of the world’s best finishers, and England’s middle-order batsman Samuel Daly Hazlett also enhance Biratnagar’s lineup, making their match against Pokhara highly anticipated.
Karnali Yaks include India’s Imran Sheikh, a player capable of building long innings, and Australia’s Will Bosisto, former U-19 captain, known as a reliable middle-order batsman. Scotland’s Mark Watt, Netherlands’ Max O’Dowd, Afghanistan’s explosive batsman Najibullah Zadran, India’s Priyank Panchal, and Indian wicketkeeper-batter Jay Kisan Kolsawala further strengthen the team. Their diverse skills make the ongoing match against Chitwan highly competitive.
Chitwan Rhinos feature several experienced all-rounders. England’s Ravi Bopara, Pakistan’s fast bowler Sohail Tanvir, Bangladesh’s middle-order all-rounder Saif Zaib, England’s top T20 batsman David Malan, and India’s young spinner Alpesh Ramjani provide a well-balanced combination of batting and bowling. With this lineup, Chitwan is expected to put up a strong fight against Karnali Yaks in the ongoing match.
